Mike grew up in Northport, a small historic fishing village on the North Shore of Long Island, NY. Living in an area called Eatons Neck, Mike was surrounded by beaches, water and boats at an early age. Fishing, clamming and working on boats as a young boy, Mike’s love for the outdoors and the water quickly grew with passion.
Mike has worked on many commercial fishing boats, starting with the old oyster dredge boats out of Northport. After High School Mike traveled on an expedition to Alaska with friends. He worked on boats out of Kodiak and Dutch Harbor, King Crabbing, and Dragging for Pollock and Cod. Instead of going back to college, Mike stayed in Alaska , fishing and exploring the vast wild country he loved so much. After several years and a few close calls working the dangerous back decks and treacherous waters of the Bearing Sea, Mike returned home to Northport. Working the Oyster dredges, Lobster boats and Marinas was fun, but gave Mike the urge to travel, so he joined the Navy to see the World.
Stationed in Virginia Beach, Mike was able to fish the exciting waters of Virginia, North Carolina and the Chesapeake Bay. After 15 years in the Navy, Mike was injured in an accident overseas, durring the first Gulf War. He severely injured his leg, and was Honorably Discharged from the Navy.
Mike bought his first Boat, GREY FIN, and was soon fishing and diving all the time. Working the Chesapeake and Atlantic waters of Virginia and North Carolina, he caught many fish. After earning his Captains License from the Coast Guard he began to Charter his boat to many of the active duty servicemen. Mike also worked on commercial and sportfishing boats, serving as Captain and Mate. From pushing barges to high dollar fishing tournaments, Mike worked hard and soon bought a new, bigger boat . The CUJO was the perfect charter Boat. Soon homeported out of Hatteras, North Carolina, Mike and the CUJO fished hard, Carolina style.
